Ten million times the power of our Sun, the Pistol Star (named for its nebula’s appearance to radio telescopes) is 25,000 light years distant. Hidden in the night skies by the dust near the center of the Milky Way, it is the most luminous object yet found by the Hubble Telescope. It is large enough to fill the diameter of Earth’s orbit and puts out as much energy in six seconds as the Sun does in one year. Scientific information is taken from Astronomy Picture of the Day/NASA This quilt was selected for an Exhibition at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins, CO in Spring of 2004. In the Winter of 2005, it was exhibited at the Greenhill Center in Greensboro, NC. This quilt was displayed in the “Uncommon Threads” Exhibit at Fayetteville Museum of Art Jan20th -Mar12th 2006.
