This piece is a story of a childhood adventure in a sacred forest When my family were sent to live in Wilkesboro, we were thrilled. Living at the foothills of the blue ridge mountains was the place we wanted to be! Right next to our parsonage was a glorious forest. I quickly discovered a path lined with wild roses and I followed it a long way until I was stopped by a vine covered intricate black iron fence. Unable to get through the vines, I went back for my scissors. After cutting the gate free, and climbing through the fence, I emerged into a room of trees covered with honeysuckle vines and flowers. What an intense sweet smell and an ominous buzzing sound! I went back home to get my little sister and some of our books. We enjoyed our secret garden in the sacred forest without a single bee sting until the day that bulldozers and concrete trucks turned it into a parking lot.
