Orion Nebula

The Orion Nebula aka M42 consists of glowing gas surrounding hot young stars at the edge of an immense interstellar molecular cloud only 1,500 light-years away. This nebula offers one of the best opportunities to study how stars are born partly because it is the nearest large star-forming region, but also because the nebula's energetic stars have blown away obscuring gas and dust clouds.

This quilt was selected by Jerry Jackson for the New Works show 2007 at Artspace in Raleigh, NC, It is scheduled to be published by Harcourt in a new textbook to be announced.
